Senator Durbin and Rep. Schakowsky visit Connections
to discuss homelessness and housing issues
U.S. Senator Richard Durbin and U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky visited Connections on Friday, February 5, 2010, to discuss homelessness and housing issues in north suburban Cook County with Connections’ clients and staff.
“We’ve seen a massive increase in the demand for our programs and services. However at the same, funding from government and foundation sources has dropped considerably. More than 70% of our Homelessness Prevention program budget was cut this year due to the state budget crisis,” explained Catherine Leonard, Vice President of Connections’ Board of Directors.
One program participant told Senator Durbin and Rep. Schakowsky that, “Case managers work extra hard to treat the whole person. I couldn’t be where I am today without the help of Connections’ staff members who have truly helped me.”
