Family Housing Services


Family Housing Services provides resources to meet the needs of families in crisis. Transitional housing and prevention services help keep families in housing and connected to their communities. All services are designed to provide intensive support services that address the underlying causes of homelessness, rather than just providing temporary shelter.

TRANSITIONAL HOUSING

  • New Beginnings for Young Families-Evanston
    • Focus on special needs of mothers 18-25 years old with young children
    • Seven scattered transitional housing units housing maximum of 35 persons
    • Vocational and educational counseling
    • Life skills training
    • Peer support groups
  • Family Independence Project-Northfield Township
    • Collaborative effort
    • Three transitional housing units
    • Outreach
    • Mental health/substance abuse counseling
    • Vocational/family counseling
    • Life skills/child care training

PREVENTION SERVICES

  • Consultation and assessment
    • Telephone consultation about the issues the family is facing
    • Assessment of needs
    • Referral to appropriate service provider(s)
  • Supportive services coupled with financial assistance
    • Financial counseling
    • Linkage with public entitlements
    • Employment and educational counseling
    • Advocacy with rental agent
    • Monthly visits or more frequently as necessary
