Hilda's Place
Hilda's Place is the only shelter north of Chicago to the
state line and east of the Tri-State Tollway that focuses on transition to independence .
. . that provides comprehensive, integrated support services as well as year-round,
emergency and short-term housing. The shelter accommodates 34 adults and is open 365
nights a year. Approximately 12,600 nights of shelter
are provided each year to
over 180 homeless adults and more than 20,000 meals
are served.
With the guidance provided by case managers and their personal
commitment to a goal plan, residents become better equipped to find permanent housing and
to resume activities of an independent adult, whether recognizing the importance of a
support network or finding and keeping a job. During their stay at the shelter, residents
are offered a variety of services including job
preparation, housing search assistance,
and general health assessment.
Services are drawn from two service areas that support an
individualized response to needs and foster self-reliance:
Residential Services is a starting point for
restoration and reconnection. It meets the basic need for food, shelter, and respite.
Clinical Supportive Services include
an array of offerings that promote physical and mental health, permanent housing,
and economic self-sufficiency: case management; psychiatric
assessment, medications, and monitoring; substance abuse evaluation
and counseling; health education, prevention, and medical treatment;
and access to a job coordinator.
