Last year we assisted over 350 households in 31 communities around northern Cook County. By intervening before homelessness occurs, Connections saves the shelter system $19 for every $1 spent on prevention.

The North Shore in Action

While Connections' facilities are located in Evanston, our reach extends across the North Shore and beyond to 31 communities throughout northern Cook County. From these communities:

  • We serve over 1,000 people who are homeless or at risk of losing their homes.
  • Over 800 people volunteer each year to help clients, more than 750 donate money, and hundreds make in-kind donations.
  • More than 50 churches and synagogues participate in serving our clients.
  • Dozens of community organizations partner with us to ensure a full range of services to clients.

All of these people together make Connections what it is.

Community Collaboration

Connections extends its thanks to the Lake Street Church, some of whose members helped to found Connections. The Church is still the home of our shelter and drop-in facility, as well as some of our offices. Additionally, many Church members are active volunteers with us, as well as financial and in-kind donors.

Two other faith based groups we partner with are Interfaith Action, which runs a morning-time hospitality and employment center for the homeless, and Family Promise, which provides housing and assistance to homeless families. See their websites for more details.
